This guide is for any female identifying person who is interested in playing Australian Rules Football.

The introduction of AFLW in 2016 has had a hugely positive impact on participation rates of girls and women’s football across all standards. An enormous 76% increase in the number of women's teams was recorded in 2017, the year after the AFLW commenced.In 2019 the number of female football teams broke the 1,000 mark for the first time.

A study released by the AFL in February 2019 found:

"The NAB AFL Women's competition has played a key role in contributing to an outstanding increase in football participation, growing by 14.42 per cent to reach a figure of 530,166, reflecting 32 per cent of all participation”.
